Breakside Brewery Cute Metal

What the brewers say

"Blended Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon barrels for 12 months and aged on Ecuadorian chocolate/cacao nibs."

What our panel thought

“Cocoa Puffs pop out of the glass; rich, gooey aroma with fudge, rum, dates, dried cherries. Flavor packs a punch, bringing bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, blackberries, vintage Port—low, pleasant oxidation.”

What our editors thought

“Dark-chocolate berry in the nose, with Port-like red-grape and bourbon-derived waffle-cone vanilla. Smooth on the tongue—thick but not weighty—with vibrant vanilla.”

Breakside Brewery Space Music

“Spicy tequila-like booziness pervades across a chocolate and raisin aroma. Sipping brings chocolate, cherries, cinnamon, and caramel. The finish is on the sweeter side of dry.”

Westbound & Down Brewing Company Beyond Opulence

“Marshmallow nose with deep vanilla and dark chocolate in the background. On the tongue, a hunk of chocolate flavors followed by sweet, creamy vanilla. Dark chocolate and light earthy tobacco play nicely.”

Jester King Craft Brewery Funk Metal

**Aroma:** “Chocolate and tartness battle for dominance, with a slight edge to tartness. Nice roasted malt notes. Some sweet and tart lactic acidity. Some cocoa and coffee. Acetic and cherry, wild _Brett_ aromas.” **Flavor:** “Semisweet and dark chocolate notes quickly overtaken by a tart acidity. Nice sweet malt character with some good roasty toast notes from the malt. Lactic lemon-like acidic flavor adds sweet and sour notes and complexity. Some funky earthy wood quality adds to the scope of the beer. Dry throughout due to bugs chewing through anything that makes a stout thick and rich.” **Overall:** “Great sour stout that has a surprising amount of chocolate flavor to pair with the tartness and acidity. The malty sweetness, chocolate, and roast blend great with the funky, earthy, lactic, and lemon sourness, but this will be a polarizing beer.”
