Firestone Walker Bretta Tangerine

What the brewers say

"A bouquet of citrus mingles with herbal notes, leading to funky, yeasty, citrus flavors. Soft cereal and oak aromas are enveloped by a firm acidity."

What our panel thought

"The tangerine is candied with a slight twang of tart at the end of each sip. Still, the fruit doesn't overwhelm, and the wheat base of the beer is soft, slightly sweet, and pillowy. Skip the mimosa in the morning and go right for this one."

What our editors thought

: "Fruit and leather (not fruit leather), with a fruity sour note make this drink like a well-mixed cocktail more than beer. Tiki depth without the excessive sweetness."

Protagonist Beer Gwen

“An earthy citrus note in the aroma. Orange zest with some pith is the main note in the flavor. Low bitterness. Sweeter profile with a tangy lime note in the background. The malt is more sweet than fluffy, the hops more berry-fruit with a hint of lemon.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Co Nec Bones

“Aroma suggests peachy orange popsicle, with just enough peach skin to convince you it’s not fake. The flavor is anything but artificial, with juicy ripe peach flavors tempered ever so slightly by a light tannic character and a hint of skin.”

Firestone Walker Bretta Blanc

Musty and moderately funky. Grape character is moderately sweet, light, and bright. Oak character dances beneath, bringing just enough vanilla and tannic quality to add a nice complexity. The synthesis of the grape and base sour beer is a winner.
