Springdale Beer Brigadeiro

What the brewers say

Brazilian coffee, cacao, oats, and milk sugar are all parts of this complete breakfast stout. Roasty, rich, and smooth!

What our panel thought

A nicely balanced and relatively subtle big stout. The lactose accentuates a soft, chewy sweetness through-out. Not much bitterness though there’s a hint of smoke on the finish to dry things up. A bit thin for style, though still reasonably complex.

What our editors thought

A light milk chocolaty nose with a light touch of roast and smoke, it’s balanced toward the easy-drinking side with a bantamweight body and a quick finish with flashes of chocolate and mild bitterness.

Fifty West Brewing Saturday Morning Cartoons

Light green coffee with subtle hints of chocolate and barrel spice. Light on the stout character. Some cara-mel sweetness and toast. Decidedly tart on the finish. Comes across as a mixture of dark malt and light fruit character.

Highland Brewing Southern Nouveau Cafe au Lait

Coffee, maple, and chocolate aroma. The sip brings maple-caramel sweetness, roast coffee, and light cinnnamon-spice bitterness; a charred note and warmth round out the sweet, coffee-led finish.

Springdale Maple BA Brigadeiro

Aroma: “Rich coffee, roast notes with a syrup-like backing sweetness. Not decidedly maple but in that realm. Raisin and no major wood aroma. Possibly some vanilla. Very interesting and inviting.” Flavor: “Lots of good stouty dark malt character—coffee and chocolate. It’s fairly sweet, but the roasty finish dries it up a bit and keeps it from being overwhelming. The barrel character comes through nicely on the finish.” Overall: “A really good stout —lots of breakfast-like complexity with the coffee and syrup notes, but nothing is over the top or out of balance. The barrel qualities on the finish really smooth out the initial sweetness and tie things together well.”
