Casey Brewing & Blending Casey Family Preserves: Raspberry

What the brewers say

"Blend of our oak-fermented and -aged Saison with whole raspberries."

What our panel thought

"Ruby-red hue. Aroma oozes raspberry. Flavor delivers a punch of tart, fresh fruit, amplified by lingering acidity. Not much else, and that’s OK. I suspect the brewer told the finance team to fuck off on this one, throwing in all the raspberries they had."

What our editors thought

"Raspberries steal the whole spotlight. Over-the-top, intense expression of the fruit. Tangy balanced acidity."

TRVE Brewing Co. Meditation is the Practice of Death

Rich fruit character, though not distinctly cherry; also Brett, wood, and earth. Lack of head suggests wine. Oak character adds pleasant light spiciness, with fruit fermentation esters; tart, with berry notes. Subtle yet complex.

Resident Culture Farm Mentality

No carbonation. Light, balanced acidity in the aroma; light floral notes; some moderate wood and a whiskey-like spirit that becomes dominant as it warms. Moderate, balanced acid. Nice complexity; a hint of leathery funk, moderate pear, white grape esters. Light woody vanilla in finish. Clean, elegant.

Reuben’s Brews Brettania: Raspberry

Hazy, deep-salmon pour; great head retention. Blackberry, raspberry dominate nose; notes of seeds, herbs, Brett-driven spice and leather. Solid sweetness from the fruit, with a sour, balanced backnote. Light minerality, light raspberry smokiness. Touch of leathery funk for balance. Finishes off-dry, clean, light.
