Chuckanut Brewery Chuckanut Grodziskie

What the brewers say

A low-alcohol, highly carbonated, refreshingly light-bodied wheat lager, with an oak-smoke flavor melded with a clean hop bitterness.

What our panel thought

Smooth, savory smoke up front—edging toward sausage—with light malt-cracker and floral hops. Light flavor and body, with tart wheat, light bread, herbal hop. Clean bitterness balances with malt. Very dry and drinkable. Slight ashen note. Smoke dominates then dissipates in the finish.

What our editors thought

Beautiful foam, wafting smoke, bacon, and light apple on the nose. The sip is incredibly light, allowing brisk bitterness to define it while pushing aside the smoke that reappears in the finish. Expertly balanced.

Uhl’s Brewing Co Blackberry * Peach Fruit Compote

“Red-orange, opaque smoothie. Fruity, creamy nose with strong vanilla, evoking beach cocktails or coconut-peach pie. Flavors of tropical fruit, peach, blackberry, coconut, vanilla. Restrained sourness. Round finish. Vanilla flirts with ‘artificial.’ Noticeable warming alcohol—Malibu rum.”

Chuckanut Brewery Chuckanut Italian Style Pilsner

Gorgeous yellow with a puffy white head that lingers. Slight honey graham cracker in the nose. Bright, crisp flavors with a slight hop bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Complex, classic spicy hop flavor. Finishes dry with a bit of a pucker, leaving you wanting more.

Chuckanut Brewery Chuckanut Bohemian Style Pilsner

Brilliant. Slight lemongrass aroma at first, then floral tones crescendo as the beer warms. Clear, crisp, with well-defined Noble-hop bitterness and a layered malt middle: toast, light candy, spice. You can nitpick the boundaries of the various regional pilsner styles, but in the end this is an extremely well-made, balanced beer. Pleasant and interesting from start to finish.
