Commonhouse Aleworks White Point Lager

What the brewers say

“Crisp and refreshing American-style craft lager. Flavors: smooth sweetness, light grain, hints of cut wood.”

What our panel thought

“Notes of lavender and rose petal–like perfume in the aroma create a clean and inviting nose. The flavor brings a light malty sweetness complemented by an herbal bitterness, but it comes across somewhat simple, missing an edge. Fresh, barely-toasted cracker with a light grassy hop character. Squarely light lager.”

What our editors thought

“Crunchy nose with orange zest and toasted grain. The flavor leans toward that warm dry malt again, with light citrus highlights.”

Halfway Crooks Beer Zero Cool

“Bright lemon, candied lemon, rosemary notes in the aroma. Smooth, crisp flavor, with lemon zest and lemon flesh dominating a low bread backbone. Rosemary notes show up later and linger into a lemony herbal finish.”

Commonhouse Aleworks Oleander Pale Ale

“Light tangelo, medium lime, and a hint of kiwi in the aroma. Orange, honeydew, cantaloupe, and lemon rind in the flavor. Moderate amount of bitterness staves off any sweetness. Soft malt backbone but a light minerality really work.”

Bend Brewing Co Killer Stashe: Amarillo

Bready malt buoys a mild wash of herbal hops in the nose—a touch of pine, a tad dank, with citrus background. In the flavor, bread crust and a hint of sweetness carry the beer to dryness. The herbal hop character expands with some spicy notes and a fruity ester. Refreshing, approachable. Exemplary. I could have one of these every day.
