What the brewers say

“Bright. Citrusy. Tart.”

What our panel thought

“Crisp, clean, fruity. Lemon and peaches. A lime-like hoppy note in the nose adds some American flair. The body gets quite heavy as it progresses, especially as it quickly loses carbonation, and that weight along with the lactic notes get in the way of some of the pleasant subtleties that make this style so good.”

What our editors thought

“A clean nose with a cucumber-like refreshing note. Flavor underscores that cucumber brightness as a light acidity and just a touch of bready malt provide some substance to the sip.”

DESTIHL Brewery Deadhead IPA Series: Steal Your Haze

“Muted aroma of lime, guava, tropical fruit. A note of grassiness and mint. Herbal, grassy, and minty notes become prominent in the flavor with light mango and guava. Heavier on the citrus/pine hop character than on the tropical fruit. Quite bitter, light bodied.”

Coronado Brewing Company Stingray IPA

**Aroma:** “Earthy, piney, grassy hops notes. Hint of biscuit malt. Orange peel, lemon-drop candy, hints of scallions, melon, very subtle grainy malt notes. Overall suggestion is of brightness.” **Flavor:** “Initial punch of fruity hops flavor that diminishes quickly. Tropical fruit on the tongue more than in the nose. Substantial evergreen character is a nice surprise. Good creamy mouthfeel adds to the overall palate character. Bitter finish is grapefruity and smooth. Malt plays a supporting role but doesn’t get in the way. The green-onion note sits on the tongue through the finish. A lot of spruce and pine notes.” **Overall:** “Moderately malty IIPA, very strong on the pine/resin side with a touch of citrus on the nose. A deceptively drinkable double IPA! Great blend of classic American IPA character along with some New-World flavors that make for a delightful tasting experience.”

50 West Brewing Doom Pedal

“Chalky minerality in the nose and flavor. Fruit-forward, with limited clove spices. Creamy and tart wheat is unbalanced by a serious lack of carbonation.”
