Deep Ellum Brewing Co Deep Winter

What the brewers say

This wintery golden porter bundles up cozy flavors of cocoa nibs and coffee.

What our panel thought

Aroma of wood, spice, nuts, milk chocolate, with vanilla notes complementing coffee; lightly toasted malt background and white raspberry. Evident coffee in the flavor, dominating the profile, over lightly sweet bread. Medium-rich body, finishing dry enough. Pleasant coffee pale ale.

What our editors thought

Light-roast coffee on the nose with an almost buttery breakfast pastry note. The sip falls a bit flat—watery and loose, with faint bitterness, lacking the richness or body necessary to really support the flavors.

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

Pontoon Brewing Company Battle of the Baltics

“Smooth and restrained roast character in the aroma, with a clean ester profile. The flavor has a touch of rough dark chocolate with a slight pepper-flesh edge. Clean lager character throughout with supporting bitterness that doesn’t distract.”

Russian River Brewing Co Russian River Porter

“Whiffs of caramel, ash, and light chocolate, mint, coffee. Soft mouthfeel gives way to a vibrant splash of chocolate, vanilla, and light roast. A bit of ashy roast comes through on the finish, leaving the palate a bit too dry.”

Deep Ellum Brewing Co Blind Peach

Bright, colorless. Aroma suggests dried peaches, like fruit leather; simple and candy-like, but not unpleasant. Vitamin-like minerality. Very dry, with subdued peach, like a ghost carried by seltzer. Pleasant. Highly drinkable. Simple and clean. A touch of sweetness leaves you with the kiss of peaches.
