Deep Ellum Brewing Co Dream Crusher

What the brewers say

“Citrusy, piney, floral, and fruity hops.”

What our panel thought

“Fruit punch, orange marmalade, strawberry jam, and hints of Australian red licorice create a fruit-forward, yet complex and compelling aroma. First sip delivers Juicy Fruit gum and strawberries, quickly met by a resinous note that tempers any sweetness. Alcohol is drying and warming, delivering resinous bitterness.”

What our editors thought

“Tropical caramel notes on the nose feel classic and contemporary at the same time. The bitterness is substantial, but smooth and integrated for a surprisingly pleasant West Coast approach.”

Elevation Beer Company DIPA

“Hazy for style, with an uncommon touch of acid in the finish. Aroma is ripe stone fruit—apricots and peaches—with moderate tropical guava and mango, plus hints of papaya. Light dank sulfur. Flavor echoes nose, with overripe peach and guava, flowery orange zest, light lime note. Cotton candy–sweet finish.”

BKS Artisan Ales Galactic Escapism

“Lemon-tangerine aroma; hints of pepper-like spice, green onion, touch of pine. OJ-forward sweetness in the sip fades to reveal pepper, garlic, pine, light woodiness. Mouthfeel lacks softness to round the rough edges. Finish is a bit disjointed and nondescriptly bittersweet.”

Anchor Brewing Co. Crisp Pilsner

Great foam, brilliant yellow-gold. Subtle but complex nose: herbal, floral, spicy, hints of lime zest, supported by light brioche malt. On the palate, fair bitterness checked by light sweetness. Flashes of herbal-zesty hop and lingering wood-spice. Has some zing, yet cohesive. Sublime. Could drink loads.
