Denizens Brewing Company Southside West Coast IPA

What the brewers say

“Features big aromas and flavors of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, tangerine, stone fruit, and pine.”

What our panel thought

“Light bread crust and moderate tangerine blend nicely on the nose. Bright orange zest and pine in the flavor, with toasted bread crust supporting. Crisp and clean. Dry finish offsets the sweet orange that lingers into the finish.”

What our editors thought

“Raspberry lemon cheesecake nose, inviting but punchy and crisp. Heftier in the sip as sweeter fruit and malt notes push ahead of the very light woody bitterness.”

Denizens Brewing Company Chapless Horseman

“Aroma initially dominated by herbal and pine hops. Vanilla, oak, whiskey follow with a light cocoa and a dark toasted-grain background. Assertive wood character in the flavor, with an aftertaste of dark sweet chocolate, a hint of coffee and whiskey, raisins, dates. Dry finish with a lingering chocolate sweetness.”

Denizens Brewing Company Hike the Alps - Marzen

“Copper pour with a tight, off-white head. Roasted malt and toasted sugar aromas. Leans toward roasted-malt flavors with some underlying dark-fruit notes. Lingering pome fruit. Dry finish.”

Green Flash Brewing Company West Coast IPA

__Aroma:__ “Rich, well-rounded nose with a ton of citrus character (blood orange, grapefruit pith, tangerine) and a malt sweetness to support. Very slight pine aroma as it warms.” __Flavor:__ “Complex citrus hops character (blood orange, grapefruit pith) with a little nice pineapple, and substantial bitterness, but enough bright malt character that provides a good balance to the hops with some sweetness and residual sugars. Mouthfeel is great with a dry finish. Hops bitterness lingers but is not unpleasant and to be expected from this style.” __Overall:__ “Pretty classic classy IIPA with lots of fun hops, balanced bitterness, and plenty boozy for the name. One could enjoy too much of this!”
