What the brewers say

Intensely tart, with hints of almond and tons of cherry characteristics.

What our panel thought

On the nose, deep red-wine grape, currant, cherry, light almond. Low notes of toast and crust. An almost perfect aroma is spoiled by so much acidity, but some surprising sweetness attempts to make an appearance. A great beer for wine lovers who prefer burgundy.

What our editors thought

Deep woody and balsamic notes underpin red-grape and cherry notes on the nose. The sip leads with the sweet-tart balance of a Flanders-style sour beer, without the malt richness. While fruit sweetness on the top offers a flash of instant pleasure, the physical experience of the acetic acid jerks it back down to earth. Overbearing acidity overwhelms any sense of balance.
