Troegs Brewing Dream Weaver Wheat

What the brewers say

“Unfiltered and cloudy with yeast, it’s slightly tart and downright refreshing.”

What our panel thought

“Pours with a beautiful head of dense white foam. The inviting aroma has banana, spice, and some citrus notes. Initial wheat and grain sweetness are balanced by higher carbonation and an assertive hops bitterness in the finish. It’s firing on all cylinders with classic hefeweizen flavors.”

What our editors thought

“Big and bold hefeweizen nose with balanced esters and phenols cranked up in intensity. Drops into a relatively dry mid sip and a clean finish. Soft, inviting but not sweet or flabby, and hopped with a deft hand.”

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company Hawley Hefeweizen

“Excellent presentation—large, off-white, poofy head of tiny bubbles that linger. Moderately grainy bread dough kicks off the aroma, followed by subdued but balanced banana esters along with low clove and black-pepper notes. The appropriately cloudy appearance sets the stage for a soft and creamy mouthfeel that gently carries the rounded grainy sweetness. The flavor matches the aroma with a nice grainy, bready base that supports medium-low banana esters and medium black pepper and clove phenolics. Hints of light vanilla further add to a metered sweet impression that remains supremely drinkable. Overall, very nicely balanced with restraint on esters and phenolics—all of the components play very nicely together.”

KC Bier Co. Hefeweizen

“Grainy nose with banana and pineapple. Slight tartness in the flavor, with big wheat notes. Low peppery phenols and bubblegum in the background. Light tangerine note sneaks into the crisp dry finish.”

**Aroma:** “It’s super bready, giving it a banana bread character. Aggressive phenols—mostly clove, but also a light off-aroma similar to opening a fresh tennis ball canister. Light musty/yeasty aromas, and a hint of citrus and other fruit esters.” **Flavor:** “Wheat up front, with clove spiciness. The burnt phenols are more muted on the taste. The banana and bubblegum esters are stronger in the flavor, with a hint of tartness, and a nice clove zing on the finish. Moderate carbonation, chewy body, and a dry finish. The vegetal flavor starts to dissipate as it warms and becomes much sweeter.” **Overall:** “Big fruitiness with the light banana and lemon. There’s some of that burnt plastic phenol in the flavor that keeps it from being a world-class beer. The wheat in the smell isn’t indicative of the low breadiness in the flavor.”
