New Realm Brewing Co. Euphonia

What the brewers say

“Brewed with German pilsner malt and hopped with Hersbrucker, Huell Melon, Saphir, and Sterling added late in the boil and whirlpool.”

What our panel thought

“Light water cracker, lemongrass aroma. Malt and hops in balance on the palate, neither dominates; could use a tad more of both. Residual gravity just enough to enhance malt sweetness. Very clean and well-made.”

What our editors thought

“Lavender, jasmine, delicate white tea–like note. Sip is crisply bitter with a pleasing floral note emerging as bitterness subsides. Simultaneously soft and sharp, sophisticated in its simplicity.”

Squatters Pub Brewery Brilliant Bier

“Easy drinking at the expense of malt character. Lemongrass-like hops are most prominent. Not too sweet, not super dry. Very clean. If this beer had a bigger malt presence up front, it would be unstoppable.”

Anchor Brewing Co. Crisp Pilsner

Great foam, brilliant yellow-gold. Subtle but complex nose: herbal, floral, spicy, hints of lime zest, supported by light brioche malt. On the palate, fair bitterness checked by light sweetness. Flashes of herbal-zesty hop and lingering wood-spice. Has some zing, yet cohesive. Sublime. Could drink loads.

Summit Brewing Keller Pils

Aroma: “Moderate Pils malt sweetness with a touch of sulfur. Very subtle floral and herbal hops with a touch of noble spice, a touch of malt breadiness. More Pils malt on retronasal. Light sulfur as it warms. Overall, somewhat muted.” Flavor: “Clean Pils malt throughout. Falls slightly sweet on the palate, but the finish is crisp and carries enough bitterness to cut through. Floral and spicy hops notes play well with the malt and bring a nice complexity. Finishes fairly dry with a slight grain-husk tannic bitterness.” Overall: “Nice beer, although a touch sweet for some. Easy drinking. A more aggressively hopped Pilsner that isn’t shy about what it’s trying to do with highlighting the spicy and floral hops.”
