What the brewers say

“Aged in Heaven Hill barrels with coconut, marshmallow.”

What our panel thought

“Rich initial aroma: sweet espresso, chocolate, light fig, currant, floral alcohol. Sweet, with rich dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla. Light brown bread, molasses, sweet pipe tobacco. Coconut largely absent. Quick finish is rich, malty. Thick body. Creamy carb.”

What our editors thought

“Beautiful sweet nutty aroma with huge vanilla notes, light roast bitterness around the edges, and a worn-in togetherness. Nimble dark chocolate with caramel overtones. Deft despite its heft.”

False Idol Brewing Eyes Up

“Aroma has some citrus notes, straw or hay aroma. Light pome-fruit esters. Crisp hop bitterness balances a slightly sweet malt body. Medium fruity esters of pear and some light spicy notes add interest. Simple, but easy-drinking and well balanced.”

False Idol Brewing Viva Los Vaqueros Mexican Lager

“Aroma and flavor present lightly toasted bread notes, slightly maltier than other examples. Clean fermentation leads into a dry, effervescent finish. Lands on the sweet side. A little corn chip–like finish showcases some of the cereals, with just enough floral hop to work. Highly drinkable, with richer-than-pilsner malt character. Reminds me of barley champagne.”

False Idol Brewing Fluffenstein

“Candy, vanilla nose. Unexpectedly stark, dry, with more roast and dark chocolate bitterness coming through. A strong dry roast with lingering subtle fruity sweetness. High-percentage dark chocolate in a glass.”
