What the brewers say

“Black barleywine aged in Willett and Blanton’s barrels. Blend of stout and barleywine.”

What our panel thought

“Black with some brown lacing around the edges, reminiscent of a stout. Dark fruits, green apple on the nose. Some roasted, toasty, coffee notes show the stout component. There’s a barrel side as well, with some sharp, sweet bourbon flavors. Rich, sweet finish. Lots of caramel.”

What our editors thought

“Light anise and herbal notes in the nose with light chocolate. The sip is a Caramello-like blend of milk chocolate and caramel, eager but tentative.”
