Flatland Brewing Company Flourish - Chenin Blanc

What the brewers say

“Mixed-culture saison aged in pinot noir barrels with chenin blanc grapes.”

What our panel thought

“Aroma is a cheesy marijuana strain—pungently savory and sulfury. New World hops lend additional citrus right out of the gate with a tart acidic punch that flows into a floral delicacy of grapes and light biscuity malt. Finish is surprisingly clean and smooth for such a piquant burst of flavor.”

What our editors thought

“Lambic-like aged-hop note in the nose, with flashes of tropical fruit. Sweeter with a strong mineral line in the sip. Funk-forward.”

Kros Strain Brewing Company Red Wine Barrel Mixed Fermentation w/ Cabernet Sauvignon Must

“Cherries, lactic acid, dark fruits, red grapes, and oak nose. SweeTarts in a glass: tart and mouth-puckering. Red grapes create a vibrant red hue and lend some sweetness to this intensely sour beer.”

Yazoo Brewing Co Brett Saison

“Citrus, pineapple, with notes of hay/alfalfa at the outset. Minty and stemlike note. A bit of dried apricot. A pleasant graininess starts the sip: some Triscuit-like flavors, plus lemony wheat.”

Trillium Brewing Company Dialed In Sauvignon Blanc

__Aroma:__ “Big juicy mix of tropical fruit and dank hops, with underlying notes of grass, herb, and spice. White grape, fruit salad, esters, and a pithy rind quality. Rose and iris in the background. Slight cheesiness and funkiness.” __Flavor:__ “Big tropical juicy hops notes with big juicy grape. Moderate acidity and tannins, with a bit of wine character. Bready malt and low-to-moderate sweetness that’s balanced by moderately high (and lingering) bitterness and dryness.” __Overall:__ “Excellent juicy quality with an almost seamless blend of fruity hops and actual fruit. There’s fruit sweetness without being cloying and hops bitterness without being harsh. It’s like a big juicy DIPA with a bit of a dank complexity and a bit of a New England bent. Intriguing blend of citrus and bitterness.”
