Anderson Valley Brewing Co. Framboise Rose Gose

What the brewers say

“By adding rose hips to the boil and fresh raspberry puree at the end of fermentation, this...is a mélange of flavors and aromas.”

What our panel thought

“Muddled raspberry and dried red chilies dominate the nose. First impression was raspberry seltzer cut with a bit of lime. A hint of salt in the last bit of flavor—like the watery salt from an almost-empty margarita.”

What our editors thought

“A fleshy, slightly sweaty nose with just a hint of berry. The sip was surprisingly dry in that fermented-out raspberry way, finishing pretty down-the-middle. Predictable, safe, unassuming.”

Evil Twin Brewing Watermelon Spritzer

“Subtle. Smells like a watermelon-rind pickle; a touch of acetic acid peeking through. Flavor carries strong Jolly Rancher watermelon sour flavor, a hint of sweetness floating throughout; seems a touch artificial. Acidity fairly well-balanced, fairly refreshing, but the vinegar-like pickle lingers a bit beyond the beer.”

Untitled Art Spritzer Weisse

“Earthy, vegetal aromas mingle with light tropical fruit and peach—curiously inviting. Flavor is lightly malty and much more bitter, tannic, and grainy than expected. Only lightly sour and acidic. Husky astringency dries out the finish and accentuates vegetal character. Caught in the no-man’s-land between crisp light lager and kettle sour.”

Anderson Valley Briney Melon Gose

**Aroma:** “Melon-like fruit sweetness is pronounced in the nose with some underlying honey notes, and some light lemon-like tartness in the back. Fruit-forward and sweet up front. Muted overall with a light sour and saltiness.” **Flavor:** “A lactic tartness hits up front followed by some melon-fruit sweetness that helps to balance and cut through the acidity. The acidity and melon sweetness carry through the light and sweet finish. The saltiness only adds to the melon sweetness, which transitions to a medium-sour finish.” **Overall:** “A nice blend with some melon sweetness that goes well with the salt character. The carbonation level is a little low, but still enjoyable. Big sourness with a touch of watermelon sweetness creates a great combination. Very drinkable and pleasing.”
