What the brewers say

“Big, bold, and black. This unusual lager style has many similarities to imperial stouts. A lengthy conditioning period creates a silky-smooth chocolaty mouthfeel enhanced by the use of oats and brown sugar. Noticeable sweetness gets balanced by roasted malt and hops bitterness.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Light floral hops. Dark chocolate as it warms. Dry, subtle chocolate and slight earthy hops emerge. Perfect for the style.”

Flavor: “Deep, deep dark chocolate malt, very clean fermentation. Light floral hops provide low supporting bitterness. Finishes a bit sweet with roast for days.”

Overall: “A great beer—rich, complex, and creamy. You want to drink this in front of a roaring fire. Eminently enjoyable.”
