Deschutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed

What the brewers say

"Gets its flavor from a heavy helping of Citra and Mosaic hops."

What our panel thought

"Caramel-sweet malt up front; hops are low and woody—like bergamot tea with an orange slice; worty with a floral touch. Sweet caramel flavor with a decent piney bitterness, rounding with the malt and lingering on the tongue. A bit thin and sweet, with a lingering bitterness."

What our editors thought

"On the nose: orange marmalade on toast; peach and apple notes. Unlike many contemporaries, it’s not embarrassed by substantial malt, embracing a rich but reasonable grain bill that adds dimension to the fruit."

Deschutes Brewery Fresh Haze

Floral aroma with berries, rhubarb, touch of dried apricot. In flavor, mild caramel and bread-crust malt support hops—dried fruit, apricots, mango. Moderate sweetness throughout—lingers without cloying—fairly low bitterness. Really interesting. Aroma is supercool.

Deschutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed IPA

**Aroma:** “Smells like Smarties and perfume. Hops are a bit muted and come through as citrus (lemon and grapefruit) and floral (rose and raspberry), followed by a malt sweetness with hints of caramel. This is a citrus bomb with a big floral note.” **Flavor:** “Very light and fruity. Very low bittering hops (with an herbal, lemon pith profile) and a high amount of flavoring hops—floral, fruity. Very slight astringency in the finish. A bready, cracker-like body. Finish is almost sweet and out of balance for the style.” **Overall:** “A bit overwhelming from the fruity hops perspective and a little bit sweet for an IPA. Could use a little more brightness to make it pop. Too much malt sweetness and the hops aroma seemed to over-promise and under-deliver in flavor. I liked the hops complexity but wanted more of it in the flavor.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Co Mind Haze

“Cotton-candy and grape notes in the nose, with hints of perfume and light floral. Flavor profile is light but fleeting. A wash of chalkiness strips away much of the nuance. As the finish lingers, hints of pine and citrus emerge. APA body encased in hops.”
