Moksa Brewing Grasp of Oak

What the brewers say

"An imperial stout aged in vanilla bourbon and apple brandy barrels for 23 months."

What our panel thought

"Dark chocolate aroma with rich coconut, pineapple, caramel, and raisin. Complex, creamy taste—rich, spicy dark chocolate in foreground—with coconut, toffee, and dark stewed fruits splashed with espresso."

What our editors thought

"A solid s’mores line runs through, with hazelnut, toasted grain, caramel, and marshmallow-vanilla nose. Finishes quickly and cleanly, with light roast clearing the palate."

Moksa Brewing Co. Deluxe

Aroma is dominated by Lucky Charms marshmallows, dark chocolate, and a light barrel presence. Taste is intensely dried fruit–driven, followed by dried marshmallows and bourbon. Sweet-leaning balance. The marshmallow character fades to a deep rich toffee character in the finish.

Foothills Brewing Dead & Berried Imperial Stout

“Dark berries, fudge, roast, and licorice on the nose. In the flavor, robust roast, berry tartness, and bitterness shove sweetness to the back. Tootsie Roll and caramel as it warms.”

Amalgam Brewing Another Realm

Subdued but complex nose: whiskey, chocolate-covered roast nuts, dark candied fruit, toffee. Huge and viscous on the palate—rich chocolate, caramel, stewed apples, cherry stem. Incredibly complex.
