Grand Teton Sweetgrass APA
What the brewers say
“A pale ale of distinction! GABF 2009 Gold Medal winner in the American Pale Ale category, this crisp and fragrant beer is hopped and dry hopped. Try it with any bold, flavorful food to complement its citrusy, resinous spiciness.”
What our panel thought
Aroma: “Bready with hints of caramel, pine, green tea, and some herbal notes.”
Flavor: “Rich bready sweetness that pairs well with citrus and pine hops character. Finish is balanced, not particularly bitter, so both the malt and hops character linger. Hints of caramel and darker coffee malt give a somewhat chewy impression. Not a lot of hops complexity.”
Overall: “A nicely balanced pale ale. It’s more malt-forward than a lot of beers in the style, so you get a finish that mixes the caramel/toast malt notes with a classic American hops profile. When all is said and done, the hops flavor is somewhat simplistic.”
