Highland Brewing Co High Pines

What the brewers say

“Citrus and blueberry hop flavors with a touch of fresh mountain pine.”

What our panel thought

“A beautiful, clear, deep gold color. Moderate orange and tangerine notes in aroma and flavor, with a caramel-malt sweetness that mildly distracts from the hops—they would stand out in a paler example. Somewhat rough and aggressive, with sharp bitterness dominant and a low but solid hop flavor. Carbonic bite adds some palate cleansing to offset the slightly sweet finish.”

What our editors thought

“Classic in all the right ways, with heavy pine hops and big dose of caramel malt, yet it stays nimble.”

New Anthem Beer Project Strange Spot In The Sky

“Deep orange haze. Soft aromas with lingering citrus notes. Orange notes with layers of vanilla and pepper. Velvety finish with soothing citrus-hop flavors with an elevated bitterness. Spirited yet straightforward.”

Foothills Brewing Seeing Double

Moderate orange-pineapple-pine aroma; light floral, grassy notes. Moderate malt sweetness—bready, caramel, honey—with firm bitterness not quite cutting the sweetness. Spicy, grassy hop flavors with lower orange-citrus.

Highland Brewing Co Wishing Star Cold IPA

“Spiked watermelon in the nose with a sharp tangerine. A reserved hop bitterness washes over the softer flavor of sweet cherries, honeydew, ripe kiwi. Finish is off-dry, and only a touch of hops lingers. Bright. Well put-together.”
