Hopewell Brewing Co Alpi

What the brewers say

An Italian-style pilsner with an aromatic hop profile and a crisp, lean body. Floral and spicy with a touch of cracker malt for balance.

What our panel thought

Bubblegum, citrus, pineapple in the nose. Sweetness from the hops gives the perception of a sweeter beer. Almost chile pepper–like finish with grape notes. Very creative interpretation.

What our editors thought

Softly fruity nose pushes into hazy IPA territory—pineapple, coconut. In the sip, those very soft fruity notes persist, with a veer toward tangerine and a decent hit of bitterness, but it embraces accessibility at the expense of punchiness.

Roadmap Brewing Co Minor In Italian

In the aroma, floral notes, some hints of grass, a hint of graininess, sulfur, and dash of pepper-spiced hops. Sweet biscuit/cookie-like malt, light bubblegum. The balance is toward the sweetness of the malt with the bitterness somewhat muted behind that. Very sweet on the approach before drying out for the finish.

Maplewood Brewing Company Pulaski Pils

Subtle aroma with woody, floral, lemon-lime-soda notes. Flavor is softer, slightly flabby, low on bitterness; lightly nutty with spicy hops. A savory impression has nowhere to hide. Dry, crisp finish. Drinks very light, without much to say. Pretty clean. Nice lingering bitter-grainy note.

Hopewell Brewing Co Outside Voice

“Solid pineapple, grapefruit, light garlic, grassy. Resinous hops with a hint of refreshing cucumber dominate the aroma and flavor. Highly drinkable with a dry finish. The bitterness is clean and assertive without being heavy-handed.”
