Omission Beer IPA

What the brewers say

“Heavy-handed use of Cascade and Summit hops produces pine, citrus, and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The NW IPA bitterness is balanced by malt sweetness.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Citrus-pine aroma is low for the style. Fruity hops presence evokes oranges, fruit blossoms, and mango. Just a touch of malt sweetness, but hops are on display here.”

Flavor: “Chewy pine resin and mint. Bitterness is very well balanced to the bread crust and caramel malt flavors. Bitter, pithy hops presence with juicy orange blossom, grapefruit, pine, and tangerine hops flavors. Medium-high carbonation. Finishes with a nice hops lingering that is not overly bitter. Dry finish helps accentuate hops.”

Overall: “A very tasty, well-done IPA. Could use a bit more malt complexity, but the hops bitterness delivers. Hops flavor and aroma falls a bit short of current hophead expectations. No noticeable detraction from the gluten reduction—it’s a well-excuted, classic American-style IPA with very bright, juicy hops character accentuated by a well-crafted base beer.”
