Jackie O's Brewery Cellar Cuvee 11

What the brewers say

“A blend of five barleywine-style, barrel-aged beers; all aged in bourbon barrels.”

What our panel thought

“Sweet burnt caramel and toffee aroma. Rich malt intermingles with leather and cigar tobacco. Very slight bitterness helps to temper the sweetness. Akin to a dunkel, with a healthy dose of honey and caramel added. Very sweet, but enough depth to keep your attention.”

What our editors thought

“Chocolate croissant nose with just a touch of fennel. The sip dives into burnt sugar with particular aplomb, at the expense of structuring bitterness.”

Jackie O's Brewery Cellar Cuvee 1

“Deep, rich aroma. Strong coffee and sweet dark chocolate. Light raisin, fig, black currant, and prune esters. Low buttery vanilla oak. Rich, but subtle and well-developed, malt flavors. Umami element just on the edges adds complexity. Barrel is restrained with light vanilla and silky mouthfeel. Balance is malt forward. Clean. Finish is sweet, only a touch cloying. Long rich malt flavor lingers a while. Excellent. Very rich and lovely. Elegant and powerful at the same time.”

Cellarmaker Brewing Company Edge of Time

“Big toffee and caramel aroma with nutty notes—almond and hazelnut—but no hop aroma or flavor. That sweet nuttiness carries through into the flavor, accentuated by moderate boozy warmth and noticeable oak. Sultanas add a big fruity note and linger into a long caramel finish.”

Jackie O's Brewery Decorating Pieces of Time

“Caramel, toffee, raisin, and vanilla in the aroma complemented by hints of stone fruit and leather. Syrupy and sweet flavor with vanilla, caramel, toffee, and prunes creating a nice, layered complexity. Velvety mouthfeel.”
