Japas Cervejaria Sawa Yuzu

What the brewers say

“Sour ale with yuzu. Amarillo and Cascade hops in dry hopping, further enhancing the citrus.”

What our panel thought

“Bright citrus aroma with yeasty sourdough, black pepper, and crackers. Sweet citrus-candy flavor—lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, clementines—with medium-low sourness then a dry, sparkling wine–like finish. Not quite sweet, but close. Like a ‘lite’ baked lemon sourdough dessert bread.”

What our editors thought

“Light and weightless, with a bright but polished cucumber-lemon nose, accomplished yet energetic. The sip leans into light citrus, with only vague tartness balanced by the dry body.”

Partake Brewing Mango Gose

“Smells like super-fruity teen perfume or aromatic candy. Heavy candied perfume flavor is there, with mango—like mango-flavored carbonated water. Drinks incredibly light—seltzer-light mouthfeel, almost watered-down. Fun and a bit over the top. One of the lightest and most laid-back sours I have ever tasted.”

WeldWerks Brewing Co. Beachside Boba

“Muted semisweet guava, passion fruit, perfumy, floral in the nose. A fruit medley of super-sweet passion fruit and strawberry on the tongue. A slight sour note tempers the ever-present sweetness. A sweet cherry pie–like note toward the end, with a tartness in the finish that holds for a while.”

Sketchbook Brewing Cumulus

“Initial aroma of citrus lemon and orange. Flavor follows aroma with light tartness and bready notes. The body is light and highly carbonated, verging on gassy.”
