Narrow Gauge Brewing King Fallen Flag

What the brewers say

Imperial IPA double dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic.

What our panel thought

Peach, mango, light coconut. Grainy mouthfeel with a fairly dry finish. Esters stay on the front of the palate, so it doesn’t seem cloying. You can smell the alcohol and feel a touch of it, but the drinkability of this beer is kind of scary. Starts lightly sweet and complex, then fades into wanting another sip (or gulp).

What our editors thought

Sweet orange, pith, and a touch of herbal dankness combine for a deliciously sweet yet intensely character-ful beer. As it unfolds, the sweet notes subside as the dank herbal wormwood notes push forward, and a whole new complexity arises.

Bend Brewing Hophead Imperial IPA

Soft aroma; dank, sweaty, Szechuan-peppery notes partly overtake tropical-citrus. Easily likeable flavor makes up for it—round, crackery-malty, juicy—with firm bitterness that plays well with alcohol, lingering as zesty resin. Danker, rougher aspects in hop flavors contained by nice malt blanket.

Two Roads Brewing Co Rocket 2 Ruin Imperial Cold IPA

“Gummi bears, light strawberry, cantaloupe, raspberry, blackberry on the nose. Malt sweetness in the sip is balanced with the bitterness from the hops and ends pleasantly dry.”

Hop Butcher for the World Kielbasa King

Deep, dank hop forest: catty, garlic, diesel, shallot, with light grassy notes, citrus, and peach. Lightly sweet malt balances complex flavors of grapefruit, mango, with light grass and hint of garlic. Satisfying, medium-full body. Smooth. Great drinkability.
