What the brewers say

“Subtle apple and pear on the nose. Well-rounded finish.”

What our panel thought

“Very pretty deep golden color with a velvety head and great mouthfeel. Toasty bread in the aroma with a hint of alcohol. Toasted bread dominates the flavor with a hint of red apple. Slightly sweet. Light on the bitterness and light grassy hop flavor. Quick and clean finish.”

What our editors thought

“Honey, toasted bread, and a touch of guava in the aroma. Diffuse and malt-forward in the sip, with a faint fresh herbal edge.”

Little Brother Brewing King in the Castle

“Classic stone fruit and British fermentation. Bold dark-fruit notes wrapped in sweet caramel. Raisin, date, plum. More on the toast side, but appropriate. Nice toffee finish, but a bit cloying.”

Little Brother Brewing Pleasing Gene

“Nose is a mix of clean floral Noble hops and crackery, bready malt. Floral bitterness is more prominent in the flavor, almost overpowering things. Floral note lingers into the finish and creates a bit of an odd mouth-coating sensation.”

Little Brother Brewing Small Fires American Lager

“Brilliantly clear gold with a large, tight-bubbled white head, medium retention. Slightly fruity aroma up front with a hint of match-struck sulfur and a low level of white bread, sourdough malt, and corn adjuncts. Hops are nonexistent. Nice breadiness reminiscent of a Bavarian cellar. Incredibly inviting and drinkable.”
