Figueroa Mountain Lizard's Mouth

What the brewers say

“Lizard’s Mouth is an IPA for IPA lovers. Not shy with hops, Brewmaster AJ Stoll uses a proprietary blend of tropical-fruit hops. This new release is bursting to the gills with fruity goodness: powerful aromas of guava, passion fruit, orange zest, and pine cascade into tropical hops flavors with a smooth, ultra-clean finish.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “A lot of hops character: melon, tangerine, orange peel, lemon, pine, garlic, green pepper, onion, and chive. There’s some honey graham cracker and a very slight grassy note.”

Flavor: “Blueberries, pineapple, dank, green onions, orange in a Styrian Golding sense. Really nice mellow bitterness that doesn’t overpower and a malt sweetness that counters a lot of the hops presence. Mid-palate hops are somewhat limited but present with an almost pie-like character. No alcohol warmth to distract.”

Overall: “A semi-West Coast–style IPA with some added nuevo hops character.”

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Lager

“Deep golden to light amber in color, brilliantly clear with a full head that sticks around. Light graham cracker character in the aroma and taste. Classic malty nose with hints of honey, toast, light citrus, and perfume. Medium to full mouthfeel; smooth, sweet malty character, with hints of toast, dark bread and balanced Noble hops. A clean muted bitter finish leaves a great impression. Great traditional European qualities to this one. Very well balanced and smooth. Easy-drinking, but full-flavored with a skillful balance.”

Golden Road Brewing Point The Way IPA

**Aroma:** “Freshly zested lemon and grassy hops aromas with a light malt sweetness. Pine, grapefruit, and tangerine with some floral notes. Fruity—peach and melon with a hint of lemon zest. No green hops aroma.” **Flavor:** “Very bright at the front of the palate, fades very quickly. Moderate lemon, grass, and grapefruit avors with just enough bitterness that drops into a dry finish. Almost effervescent with a slight carbonic bite. Malt body is light but enough to support the moderate hops profile. Piney and spicy with slight peppery notes. Very clean finish with a long-lasting bitterness.” **Overall:** “Bright and refreshing with just enough malt body to stay in balance. A superbly ‘clean’ beer with just the right amount of bitterness to let you know it’s an IPA without overpowering the avor hops. A great lawnmower beer with less apparent alcohol level, built for drinking more than one.”

Worthy Brewing Farm Out Passion Fruit Saision

Aroma: “Foreground is passion fruit with hints of flint, white pepper, peach, and lemon zest. Slight clove, banana, sweet. Background is Pils malt, semisweet.” Flavor: “White pepper, peach, subtle passion fruit, and lemon zest. Low bitterness, light body, and high drinkability. Moderately low sweetness with a dry finish.” Overall: “Everything about this beer is fairly subtle, but works well. With a light summery body, it’s a very refreshing and drinkable beer. Reserved, but well-crafted and well-balanced saison.”
