La Cumbre Brewing Co. Mango Pineapple Gose

What the brewers say

“Tart, not sour really but certainly lactic...and a lovely underlying aroma of pineapple and mango.”

What our panel thought

“Moderate tart citrus/tropical aromas, lightly funky with mango, very overripe fruit. Semisweet body with pineapple flavors that give way to a rustic edge. Acidity well in balance with malt and sweetness of fruit. Overripe flavors carry through.”

What our editors thought

A delicious agua fresca nose offers the bright definition of pineapple over the round funky sweetness of mango. The sip offers a sharp acidic hit with shocks of pineapple that linger into a pleasing retronasal echo.

Parish Brewing Co. Greetings From Holly Beach

“Murk and haze look more at home in the world of IPAs. Aroma is unique, with earthy, tropical notes competing for domination. Earthy coconut meat and milk flavors integrate well with tropical nectar-like sweetness, evoking a tropical cocktail.”

Evil Twin Brewing Watermelon Spritzer

“Subtle. Smells like a watermelon-rind pickle; a touch of acetic acid peeking through. Flavor carries strong Jolly Rancher watermelon sour flavor, a hint of sweetness floating throughout; seems a touch artificial. Acidity fairly well-balanced, fairly refreshing, but the vinegar-like pickle lingers a bit beyond the beer.”

Baere Brewing Company Saison

“Classic saison aromas of spicy phenols, fruity esters, cracker malt, herbal hops. Moderate sulfur aromatics slowly dissipate and reveal hints of pepper and bread-like malt. The flavor is a lively back-and-forth with peppery spice.”
