Maplewood Brewing Company Barrel Aged Cuppa Hazelnut

What the brewers say

"This variant is blended from Cuppa aged in Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill and Weller barrels for 12 to 18 months. The Weller barrels’ age is notable: 7, 15 & 16 year were included in this blend. Conditioned on cacao nibs, vanilla, coffee, and hazelnut."

What our panel thought

“Intoxicating Mounds bar nose. Robust chocolate flavor, with nuts, creamy coffee, maple syrup, and soft-serve chocolate ice cream. Big, thick mouthfeel and a nice dollop of booze. Sizable bittering helps balance hefty sweetness.”

What our editors thought

“Dive bar meets Italian dessert in the nose, with stale cigarette, bourbon, and hazelnut truffle. Comfortable, accessible, yet aspirational, with boozy chocolate-pecan against French roast. Equal parts louche and lofty.”

Maplewood Brewing Company Barrel Aged Cuppa Vanilla Rye

“Pleasant aroma, with boozy espresso, dark chocolate, and vanilla setting the stage for a spicy black-pepper note and hint of whiskey. The sip is smooth, with a spicy whiskey component, as rounded chocolate, coffee, and vanilla interplay jovially in the background. The rye brings interesting complexity while helping to balance the sweetness of this massive beer. Finishes with smooth and clean spicy black pepper and alcohol notes. Well-balanced with no rough edges.”

Maplewood Brewing Company Cuppa Breakfast

“Scale-tipping maple with a warming chocolate confection. Light coffee complements the overall aromatics with layered intensity. Flavor bridges from the aromas and further illustrates the beautiful marriage of these breakfast favorites in the journeyman craftsmanship of this beer.”

Single Hill Brewing Company Overstory with Hazelnuts, Vanilla, & Chocolate

“Interesting first impression. Unexpected moderate floral note. The flavor is more in line with expectations with hazelnut, chocolate, and vanilla sweetness giving a Nutella impression. Creamy finish, with a touch higher carbonation that somehow works here.”
