Mason's Brewing Company El Diablo

What the brewers say

Mexican-style lager brewed with corn. Bright in body, clean and crisp. Aromas of light corn and lemongrass.

What our panel thought

Pleasant, enticing nose: sweet fresh-cracked grain, with hop notes ranging from floral and spicy to Limoncello. Soft, sweet corny-malt flavor, not quite balanced by low bitterness. Fizzy. Crisp, clean finish with lingering sweetness and hint of spicy hop.

What our editors thought

Light malt and an ever so slight citrus note on the nose make for an inauspicious but accessible entry. The sip leans toward sweet corn, with just a bit of lightly floral hops for structure. Light, fun, flavorful, and simple.

10 Torr Distilling & Brewing Secret Cove Cerveza

“Crisp cracker and herbal Noble hops intertwine with slight skunk—complementary and inviting. Great balance between sweetness and bitterness. Finishes quickly. Every sip is fluffy and delicate. I could see myself drinking quite a bit of this on a hot summer day while doing yard work. You’d swear a bit of citrus was snuck into this.”

Uhl’s Brewing Co Mediodia

“Pale, with thick foam. Sweet, corny, and cracker-malt character. Finishes dry and drinkable. Well-made, highly consumable. Maybe the most unassuming beer we’ve had—nothing to fault it, but also nothing that says much. Clean and balanced. Could be the beer the Beastie Boys were rapping about in ‘Paul Revere.’”

Moniker Brewery El Rhodeo

“A soft corny aroma plays off the grainy aspect of the nose. Fresh malt with slight minty hops. Fairly dry finish with a prickly carbonation. Smooth, light on the tongue. Sweetness lingers, abetted by fresh bread flavor.”
