New Realm Brewing Tank Dog Hazy Imperial IPA

What the brewers say

“This hop monster is loaded with aromatics of tropical fruit and citrus.”

What our panel thought

“Orange pour, no haze. Inviting, complex nose of tropical fruit—pineapple, mango, passion fruit—blended with pleasant floral and pine touches. In the flavor, berries combine with tropical fruit and expressive tangerine, complemented by healthy, semisweet malt structure. Finishes refreshingly bitter, with a vibrant orange hop tone.”

What our editors thought

“Sweet peach and apricot aroma and a touch of tea-like smooth bitterness in the sip. Polished and confident.”

Bend Brewing Hophead Imperial IPA

Soft aroma; dank, sweaty, Szechuan-peppery notes partly overtake tropical-citrus. Easily likeable flavor makes up for it—round, crackery-malty, juicy—with firm bitterness that plays well with alcohol, lingering as zesty resin. Danker, rougher aspects in hop flavors contained by nice malt blanket.

Two Roads Brewing Co Rocket 2 Ruin Imperial Cold IPA

“Gummi bears, light strawberry, cantaloupe, raspberry, blackberry on the nose. Malt sweetness in the sip is balanced with the bitterness from the hops and ends pleasantly dry.”

Resident Culture Radical Empathy

Sulfur-driven nose collides with spirited peppery hops; notes of pine and perfume. Flavor delivers on that bold promise: equal parts floral and spicy while also cleanly crisp. Finish pushes the bitterness envelope but carefully avoids harshness with a touch of malt sweetness. Extremely drinkable.
