Night Shift Brewing, Inc Hoot Blood Orange Mango

What the brewers say

Not watered down or back-sweetened. Fermented with wine yeast, creating a naturally crisp, soft, fruity, refreshing profile for bright flavors.

What our panel thought

Crystal clear. Aroma bursts with blood orange; mango is more subtle. Orange flavor is a little muddled; some floral notes. Medium-high carbonation is a bit lacking. Flavor seems a little generic.

What our editors thought

Clear and sparkling—it looks the part. Bright, zesty aroma like orange juice–flavored candy. Lively, light, off-dry—a bit of that fruit flavor shows up on the way to a clean, crisp finish. Mango manifests as more floral than tropical. Simple, easygoing, refreshing.

Wiley Roots Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose

**Aroma:** “Heavy blood orange up front with light pineapple aroma and some slight mint and subtle floral notes. Nice fruit character, almost like fresh orange juice, and a little salt character.” **Flavor:** “The orange is present but not overly sweet, with hints of raspberry, pear, pineapple, and apple notes that are supported by a tartness that helps to enhance the other flavors. The salty character is nice, the tartness is light, and the carbonation is good with a refreshing finish. Good complexity of complementary flavors.” **Overall:** “Very fruit-forward with blood orange and pineapple flavors, and more carbonation could create a even richer profile. Juicy, fruity, and sweet, with the flavors of various fruits. The first sip beckons a second sip and more. Great for a summer day.”

Night Shift Brewing, Inc Whirlpool

Big, woody pine in the nose. Well-balanced flavor is piney, juicy, citrusy, and bitter, with some dankness as it warms. Just enough malt to hold it together. Nice throwback combo of piney and citrus hops. Excellent. Enjoyed this one immensely.

Mother's Brewing Company Blood Orange Saison

__Aroma:__ “Citrus with a deeper character. Orange, orange zest, orange juice. There’s an underlying red fruit/raspberry/ strawberry thing going on. Is the aroma supported by some fruity hops additions? Blood orange, lemon, and grapefruit and some slight hops notes.” __Flavor:__ “Great blood-orange flesh and zest notes throughout, but the base beer is a flash of carbonation that quickly fades to almost nothing on your palate. Finishes thin and slightly bitter with a carbonic bite. The lingering bitterness is not unpleasant. There’s a marmalade character to the flavor.” __Overall:__ “The orange is present but not overpowering. The zest and juice character that comes through is likeable, but it needs more residual sweetness to support the orange presence. A bit of pithy bitterness from the zest borders on too much. Nice beer overall.”
