Offshoot Beer (The Bruery) Unwind (You Earned This Hoppy Pils)

What the brewers say

Decompress and take it easy with Unwind, a casually-crushable hoppy pilsner brewed with Citra, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, and Sterling hops.

What our panel thought

Fresh, piney grapefruit nose, with a little honey-malt underneath. In the flavor, a burst of crystal malt sweetness with good grapefruit-citrus hops. Well balanced sweetness and hop-bitterness. Crisp, clean brightness showcases the hops. Doesn't try too hard. Smoothed out; no raw IPA edges.

What our editors thought

West Coast IPA classicism meets lager tradition. Citrus-pine nose gives way to a soft body that nonetheless maintains a mild crisp edge. Light on bitterness, but other flavors are suitably in balance.

Bill's Brewing Company Bizness In The Front

Attractive beer, crystal clear with a robust head. Nose of lemon zest, grapefruit, orange pith. Lemon-lime soda water flavor up front, crisp, bright and clean hop flavor. Hop flavor a little acidic, enhanced by lighter body. Pleasant. Drinks easy and light.

St. Elmo Brewing Company Slowpoke

“Floral cream soda nose? Sure, why not. And the hop profile gets even more weird—menthol, pear, dried fruit—but it works. Balanced, very restrained bitterness to keep other aggressive flavors out of the mix. Mint and tea-like profile, totally bohemian and on top of flavor trends. Interesting and well done.”

Offshoot Beer (The Bruery) Escape [it's your everyday West Coast IPA]

“Sweet herbaceous blend on the nose, black tea and cannabis. Touches of citrus underneath. Sweet malt flavor brings out more cannabis, more citrus, lime zest.”
