Black Project Oxcart

What the brewers say

"Blend of 1-, 2-, and 3-year-old turbid-mashed, spontaneously inoculated beers."

What our panel thought

"Herbal, with floral and bright citrus notes; some chlorophenols, which carry into the flavor. Medium acidity and funk; lemon, orange, herbs, and some vinous light oak."

What our editors thought

"Low carbonation, but aroma’s subtle orange and stone fruit, propped by funky mineral note, pull things back around. The sip is intensely fruit-forward, with orange and lime notes that feel heavy."

Black Project OXCART (2018)

Subtle and restrained funkiness on the nose with notes of leather, oak, lemon, peach, and horse blanket. This is paired with a soft grainy malt body and slightly tart finish. Refreshing and crisp with delicate fermentation notes. Really well-done.

Black Project Supercruise Cab Sauv

Aroma: “Crisp and inviting. Some nice grape, pear, and cherry, followed by genuine cellar funk, woody earthiness, and a slight lemon tartness.” Flavor: “Well blended. There is a really fun balance between some nice sweetness, some earthiness, a little funk, and a light tartness. The fruit character of grapes, a little cherry, some strawberry, also has notes of peanuts, wine cork, oak ,and vanilla. Quite acidic overall with a sticky mouthfeel, but finishes great without the punishing dryness of over-attenuation.” Overall: “The fruit and wild fermentation characters are the primary qualities, and each express depth and nuance. Not much in the way of beer character—the strong acidity and lingering sweetness cover that up for the most part.”

Wooden Robot Saison de Peche

Low sulfur, light minerality in nose; notes of white grape, pear, herbs. Bright, tart acidity in flavor; a touch toward vinegar. Malt sweetness of biscuit and wheat in finish, but acidity trails quite a while, building.
