pFriem Family Brewers Vienna Lager

What the brewers say

Aromas of toasted bread and toffee, and notes of caramel and nuts. Finishes crisp with a touch of sweetness.

What our panel thought

Fairly hop-forward herbal and floral aroma initially. Then a nice lightly toasted and biscuit aroma wrapped in a mist of very light herbal hops. The flavor builds on that toast, adding some fresh crushed malt and bread dough. Hops and malt are well-balanced. Finish has some good Maillard quality. Finishes dry.

What our editors thought

A touch of oily orange peel on the nose, with soft bready notes. In the sip, a tight toasted bread flavor avoids more indulgent caramel tones, and the light bitterness appears mid-swallow to clean it up. Crisp but warming, it evokes comfort but remains dry.

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

Central Standard Brewing CSB Vienna Lager

“Wonderfully balanced malt aromatics of roast, toast, bread, and cracker are supported by a clean floral hop note. The sip delivers what the aroma promises with a nice layered-but-restrained malt body and a balanced floral and perfume bitterness. Drinks clean and finishes crisp.”

Old Thunder Brewing Saison Never Sleeps

“Sweet floral funk in the nose, mingling with tart, musty grapefruit. Light and lively on the palate without ever being sweet; soft lemony tartness is almost creamy. Light dry finish.”

pFriem Family Brewers Big IPA

“Full-bodied and filling, with moderately low, candy-like, lingering mandarin orange bitterness in the flavor and aftertaste. Hop character is lower than expected, especially for a double IPA.”
