Pondaseta Brewing Co. Blended Family: 2019x

What the brewers say

A blend of four barrels. Tart aroma with oak and fruit, light body, effervescent, medium acidity, and rounded out with light Brett funk.

What our panel thought

Aroma of pineapple, lemon, lemongrass, leather, oak-derived vanilla, and stone fruit; cereal-like sweetness dances in the background. In the flavor, strong acidity—lemon, pineapple, black tea, funky horse blanket, leather, and hay. Complex, interesting.

What our editors thought

Peach and apricot on the nose, with a touch of cereal. The sip is strongly acidic, with a burst of stone fruit and lemon. The mineral content dries it out quickly; endearing stone fruit lingers. Shocking acid level.

Funk Factory Geuzeria Meerts Blueberry

Light blackberry, blueberry, brought to heel by a very strong balsamic vinegar aroma. The flavor brings in some meaty umami, mushroom, and clementine to complement the blueberry, accented by a punch of lactic tartness. While it’s not bad to drink, you can’t help but want to put it on a salad with some first-pressing olive oil.

Odd Breed Wild Ales Meandering Thoughts

“Funky, horsey nose. Acidic up front but quickly moves into more complex notes of earth and dry sherry with dry lemon. Dry finish feels appropriate. A wild ride from acid to complexity to clean, quick finish.”

Side Project Brewing Fuzzy Blend #2

__Aroma:__ “A mix of peach esters and sweetness, with a slight acetic and funky Brett character. Leathery horse blanket notes blend well with the aromas, and it’s sour, funky, and generally kind of stinky. Earthy, fruity, peachy, with estery notes of floral, pineapple, and strawberry.” __Flavor:__ “The peach is fruity and big, with notes of cherry and pineapple, and obviously strong esters to support. Everything is nicely balanced. Wet hay, Brett funk, and a dry acidity carry the fruit all the way through the tasting experience.” __Overall:__ “The fruit hangs in there all the way from sip to finish. So much complexity between the flavors of the fruit and the sourness and the funk. The beer tastes as if it’s been treated well over time, leading to a well-done, mature fruited sour.”
