Precarious Beer Project Peach Scorchard

What the brewers say

“Brewed with local grilled peaches, tamarind nectar, and a touch of fresh helios habañero pepper.”

What our panel thought

“An earthy, very green-chile aroma doesn’t overpower the juicy peach or zingy tamarind, which is the real star, adding some welcome complexity that reminds one of Asian candy. The chiles accent the sour a little and brighten the aftertaste.”

What our editors thought

“Light peach in the nose and just a touch of herbal note underneath it. The sip is bold and vivid, with an almost passion fruit–guava tang, and the heat is very mild. Interesting, engaging.”

Ciderie Daufresne Poiré

“Great nose, effervescent, strong fruit initially, then hints of must and perfume. Soft floral, woody notes with light cinnamon. Semisweet, pear-like in its earthiness. Pleasant, refreshing, balanced. Not as tannic as most French ciders.”

Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) Mindful Monkeys

“Pulpy bright orange color with a steady white head. Passion fruit–mango nose. Tart tangerine flavor has a vinous, almost champagne quality that dances around the fruit components. A moderate amount of sourness lingers slightly on the tongue. One for the white-wine fans.”

Crooked Stave Citra Exploratory

Brilliant light orange haze. Right out of the gate, it hits on all the right notes from front to back. Intriguing clean citrus and tropical-juice bomb highlighting pineapple. Vibrant mouthfeel with layers of pineapple and orange and a full and refreshing finish.
