Prison City Brewing So Stupendous

What the brewers say

“Strata and Citra hops. Should provide notes of passion fruit, sticky ganja (so we’re told), grapefruit, mango, and guava.”

What our panel thought

“Fresh-squeezed orange jumps out of the aroma, balanced by notes of lemongrass, grapefruit, and a light woody note. Subtle malt sweetness supports the citrus-forward bitterness, while the soft mouthfeel tempers that bitterness, holding everything together into the lightly bitter finish.”

What our editors thought

“Lightly sweet Jamba Juice nose—mixed fruit with a tropical twang. Sip is light and accessible, creamy, with a light peppery spice.”

Omission Bright Eyed IPA

“Light Earl Grey tea and wort aroma. The hop aroma is a bit muted, but the flavor delivers the hops and has a medium level of supporting bitterness. Clean and refreshing with medium-high carbonation and a semidry finish.”

Prison City Brewing Super Modified

“Lemon and orange dominate the nose. Sweet melon in the flavor with a slight sharp pineapple bite in the middle that lingers into the finish, joined by a pink lemonade. The balance tips toward an effervescent sweetness that lingers on the tongue.”

Prison City Brewing Seward's Folly

Fresh, vibrant hop aroma: lemon, orange, grapefruit, and light pine with underlying cracker/bread malt. Flavor is more balanced, moderate, with light toast and cracker malt balancing citrus, pine, and lemongrass hops. Drab mouthfeel, somewhat lifeless. Dry finish. Refreshing.
