Pure Project Euphorik with Blackberry

What the brewers say

An American wild ale conditioned on local organic blackberries and aged in pinot noir French oak.

What our panel thought

Light funk on the nose. Hints of lemongrass, leather, horse blanket, wet hay, and a light stone-fruit character create a delicate, inviting aroma. An initial tart, peach-like character fades into an acidic lemon-lime flavor with hints of oak-derived tannin and light vanilla. The acidity builds quickly but also dissipates quickly.

What our editors thought

We don't normally comment on packaging concerns, but the cork in this beer was a flimsy mess that made the bottle very difficult to open. Once open, the aroma leads with an almost wine-grape tannic juicy funk, with light notes of apple turnover, berry smoothie, and red wine. The sip is sour but a bit chalky, dulling the fruit character and drying out the mouthfeel, amplifying the acidity without benefitting the beer.

Raspberry dominates aroma. Light, simple acidity. Hint of raspberry smoky notes. Light notes of sour cherry. Solid, strong acidity. Finish very dry. Tartness and fruit linger.

Pure Project Lost Monarch

“Light nutty chocolate-cake aroma. Full mouthfeel, coffee flavors up front with chocolate syrup and a light, rich nut flavor. An instant reminder of waffle cones with chocolate and hazelnut ice cream.”

Westbound & Down Brewing Company Meta Blackberry

“Funky, barnyard berry and currant nose with brilliant clarity. Light body with a very earthy, herbal, fruity flavor that finishes dry and lightly spicy. Just a hint of tannin.”
