Barrel Theory Beer Rain Drops

What the brewers say

Our original take on a Northeast-style IPA. An abundance of Citra and Mosaic hops provides its hops-driven hazy appearance, aroma, and flavor.

What our panel thought

Aroma is tropical fruit–forward with ripe passion fruit and orange. Sweetness is more restrained than the aroma suggests. Bitterness is moderately low, and there’s a hint of acidity. Medium-full body but overall fair-ly balanced.

What our editors thought

Citrus meets cereal on the nose as a bready malt character balances the strong orange notes underpinned by slight herbal funky and dank notes. The sip is right down the middle of the plate for Citra-forward IPAs with prominent citrus and just enough bitterness to scrub it clean.

WeldWerks Brewing Co. Advanced Fluid Dynamics

“Hints of earthy coconut dance over tropical-fruit notes of pineapple, mango, and orange in the aroma. Complex fruit flavors vie with marshmallow malt. Lots of fresh mango, juicy pear, guava, and light lemon. Soft mouthfeel, but a light warmth.”

North Park Infinite Content

Peach, blueberry, mango combination suggests light vanillin complexity. Flavor is enjoyable, with sweet orange, strawberry, lemon, grapefruit pith, and pine. Soft and sweet, low bitterness. Very light hop burn on the tail end. Finishes dry and bitter. Brings you back for another sip.

Ninkasi Pacific Rain Northwest Pale

Aroma: “Pine and grapefruit/citrus, verging on catty, moderately strong malt—some caramel. Nice fruity esters. Subtle and interesting.” Flavor: “Light caramel malt with hints of toast. Nice grassy, lemon hops character balances nicely. Finish is relatively dry, well-balanced, with lingering bitterness and fruity hops character.” Overall: “A well-made light pale ale with interesting hops character and great balance throughout. It’s stronger on the fruity hops character than aggressive pine/resin, leaving a softer, more delicate finish.”
