What the brewers say

"A style-guideline-breaking barleywine brewed for maximum cellarability. Twice barrel aged. First in Colorado single malt whiskey barrels, finished in Colorado bourbon barrels, sourced directly from the local distilleries."

What our panel thought

"Some dried fruit thickness here–plum, raisin, fig. Bourbon barrel character upfront in the aroma with hints of alcohol and some dark fruits like raisins. Spike of sweet jammy goodness right off the bat followed by a smooth mellowed woodiness, but in the sweetest sense. Milk chocolate and alcohol dominate the flavor and the presence of alcohol lasts through the flavor, but does not burn. Nutella-y in its smoothness. Decadent. Sweet, rich body followed by a beautiful tannic cut. Deep chocolate covered raisin flavor lasts through the aftertaste."

What our editors thought

"Deep vinous notes in the nose balanced by a strong oaky bourbon sweetness. Rich and alluring. Sweet in the sip with a bourbon fight and woody structure that mitigates the more subtle fruit notes. Thick syrupy legs coat the side of the glass. Intense and fiery with bold character, yet smooth and refined."
