Roadmap Brewing Co Minor In Italian

What the brewers say

A light and approachable take on the style that mashes classic and modern techniques.

What our panel thought

In the aroma, floral notes, some hints of grass, a hint of graininess, sulfur, and dash of pepper-spiced hops. Sweet biscuit/cookie-like malt, light bubblegum. The balance is toward the sweetness of the malt with the bitterness somewhat muted behind that. Very sweet on the approach before drying out for the finish.

What our editors thought

A bit of eggy sulphur competes with Noble floral aroma in the nose, while the water seems to weigh the entire nose down. In the sip, sweetness overpowers the bitterness for a bit too much body and not enough hop punch.

Hopewell Brewing Co Alpi

Bubblegum, citrus, pineapple in the nose. Sweetness from the hops gives the perception of a sweeter beer. Almost chile pepper–like finish with grape notes. Very creative interpretation.

Maplewood Brewing Company Pulaski Pils

Subtle aroma with woody, floral, lemon-lime-soda notes. Flavor is softer, slightly flabby, low on bitterness; lightly nutty with spicy hops. A savory impression has nowhere to hide. Dry, crisp finish. Drinks very light, without much to say. Pretty clean. Nice lingering bitter-grainy note.

Bend Brewing Co Black Diamond Dark Lager

“The nose is a pleasant balance of toffee, dark chocolate, coffee, and toasted malt with hints of floral and perfume-like hops. The borderline-acrid roast notes overpower the flavor profile and wash out much of the subtle nuance. Clean and crisp, but the bitter elements are a bit over the top.”
