Fifty West Brewing Saturday Morning Cartoons

What the brewers say

BA breakfast stout with chocolate cereal, cocoa nibs, vanilla, and coffee brewed in collaboration with Cincin-nati Craft Beer Club and The Party Source.

What our panel thought

Light green coffee with subtle hints of chocolate and barrel spice. Light on the stout character. Some cara-mel sweetness and toast. Decidedly tart on the finish. Comes across as a mixture of dark malt and light fruit character.

What our editors thought

Buttery baked brownie nose. The body comes across a touch thin, both in viscosity and flavor intensity as the roast adds a sharpness and slight acidity.

Highland Brewing Southern Nouveau Cafe au Lait

Coffee, maple, and chocolate aroma. The sip brings maple-caramel sweetness, roast coffee, and light cinnnamon-spice bitterness; a charred note and warmth round out the sweet, coffee-led finish.

Springdale Beer Brigadeiro

A nicely balanced and relatively subtle big stout. The lactose accentuates a soft, chewy sweetness through-out. Not much bitterness though there’s a hint of smoke on the finish to dry things up. A bit thin for style, though still reasonably complex.

Central Waters Peruvian Morning

Aroma: ”Dry coffee spiciness, and the retronasal brings cinnamon and alcohol.” Flavor: “Chocolate, slight vanilla, slight caramel, boozy warmth. Slight coffee. The finish comes across a bit thin, which leaves a lingering tannic astringency.” Overall: “A bit thin for a barrel-aged stout, which leaves some of the harsher edges of the aged character unbalanced in the finish. Nice coffee and chocolate character, but the finish is a bit astringent.”
