What the brewers say

"Deeper black, darker chocolate and fuller roast flavors than in this roaring imperial stout's little sibling. Watch the snow fall outside, it's already winter."

What our panel thought

“Nutty chocolate aroma with a tart, carbonic bite. Rich roast malt, licorice, with hints of clove and cinnamon, reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate. Spicy through the finish. Finish a touch sweet. Medium full body.”

What our editors thought

“Woody, wet-dog note on the nose. The sip is more structured woody tannin with a big bread crust note, but surprisingly restrained roast.”

Area Two Experimental Brewing Barrel-Aged Chocolate Cookie Stout

“Intoxicating chocolate-pastry aroma—big, bready cookie dough. Flavor brings big coconut, toasted bread crust, fresh-baked cookie, and moderately sweet chocolate. Like warm cookies soaked in rich liqueur. Huge coconut macaroon notes. Finishes sweet, with lingering coconut and creamy roast. Slightly harsh warmth. Big, chewy mouthfeel. Chocolate pastry bomb.”

Single Hill Brewing Company Reserve - Osa Major

“Alcoholic heat in the nose obscures hints of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. Booze carries into the flavor, stripping away more subtle complexities. Roasty, smoky, with pleasantly malty profile.”

DESTIHL Brewery Dosvidanya Rye

Rich nose of vanilla, treacle, roast nuts, chocolate-covered cherries, oak, raisin liqueur. Sweet, warm, fruity flavor—caramel, roast, wispy cotton-candy, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, espresso. Big, lush mouthfeel. Warm, prickly finish, lingering pome fruit.
