SKA Brewing The Ska Lager

What the brewers say

“Slightly floral … A no-nonsense, snappy, crisp, and bright easy-drinking lager..”

What our panel thought

“Medium husky grain with light nuttiness and low hop bitterness. The hop character is floral and slightly spicy. Light, estery aroma with notes of golden raisins and red apple. Crisp, dry finish. Nuttiness.”

What our editors thought

“Woody malt or hop note in the aroma with a hint of amaro-like herbs. Slightly tannic malt in the flavor with a broad grainy character.”

SKA Brewing Mexican Style Lager Dark

Bright, copper brown–good head that retains well. Assertive chocolate malt in the nose, dressed with a bit of toasty malt, light floral hops, and a light coffee edge. Firm roast in the well-rounded flavor—nuts, toast, biscuit, and chocolate in balance, with light, clean, complementary floral-herbal hop flavor. Fairly creamy. Very drinkable. A bit richer than a Negra Modelo. Quite pleasant.

Cerebral Brewing Temnota

“Huge roast character. Smells nice—coffee, raisin, and chocolate notes alongside cherry-like esters. Slightly burnt and metallic. Roast dominates as it warms. Strongly toasty flavor with plum, coffee, and herbal hops. Slightly acrid. Good carbonation. Balanced finish, drying as it lingers. Sippable complexity. Wouldn’t commit to a pint.”

American Solera Tulsa Time

“Clear, dark golden in color with a fluffy white head. Hint of sweet malt greets the nose intermingled with some soft green fruit that shows up late. Clean fermentation character with moderate malt character. Firm bitterness, perfume-like hop flavors dominate and linger. Dry finish.”
