What the brewers say

“A radical hazy pale ale.”

What our panel thought

“Strong hop aroma with white-grape must, mango, and lemon. The flavor doesn’t stray far from the aroma, with a medium mouthfeel and a pleasantly full body. The malt profile walks a fine line to keep the hop bitterness in check. Powdered lemon cake. Finishes dry and leaves an herbal and dank aftertaste. Not a hop bomb, and one could drink a number of these.”

What our editors thought

“Light tangerine and peach in the nose, with a crisp sweaty note underneath. Softly sweet in the sip with a melon gentility.”

Westbound & Down Brewing Company Colorado Pale Ale

“Orange-forward nose with a dash of spice. Fresh citrus hop notes on the retronasal. Lightly sweet malt background, fresh white bread. Soft pale body elevates the orange and lemon hop flavors. Captivating conclusion brings an elevated bitterness together with the semisweet plump flavor.”

Moksa Brewing Co Yakima Trinity

“Aroma is piney and has berry fruit. Strawberries, papaya, peach, pine resin, grapefruit, woodland berries with hints of raspberry in the flavor. Moderate levels of carbonation allow the hop flavors to pop against a saltine or white-bread malty backbone. Well-balanced and finishes slightly dry.”

St. Elmo Brewing Company Slowpoke

“Floral cream soda nose? Sure, why not. And the hop profile gets even more weird—menthol, pear, dried fruit—but it works. Balanced, very restrained bitterness to keep other aggressive flavors out of the mix. Mint and tea-like profile, totally bohemian and on top of flavor trends. Interesting and well done.”
