Broken Strings Brewery Sugared Stout Gang Peanut

What the brewers say

"Our imperial pastry stout base treated with cocoa nibs and peanuts."

What our panel thought

"Massive salty peanut butter nose with some milk chocolate and light fig/prune fruitiness. Hints of espresso and cocoa. Creaminess of the peanut dries out the finish and lingers. Full body, low carb, smooth alcohol, highlights the peanut well."

What our editors thought

"Singularly peanut in the nose beyond any shadow of a doubt, but subtle vegetal notes materialize around the edges."

Full Sail Brewing Co. Bourbon Barrel Stout

**Aroma:** “Vanilla and oak up front, with dark chocolate and chocolate syrup. Some toasty malt and roast, as well as dark stone fruit esters, and sweetness from the bourbon barrel. Overall, it’s fairly muted.” **Flavor:** “Moderate oak with cherries, chocolate, light smoke, and light vanilla mixed with some bitterness. The sweetness is nicely balanced by the roast, and it slowly fades. Notes of light coconut and almond are present, as well as lots of barrel character—but the vanilla and oak lead the charge. The medium body doesn’t quite stand up to the barrel treatment, and the roast bitterness lingers a little too long.” **Overall:** “Lots of barrel, but not a lot of beer—the barrel overshadowed it. The vanilla and oak were nice, but there wasn’t enough malt or body to back it up. There’s too much bourbon overall. It’s an interesting beer with nice barrel character, but not enough beer to overcome the bourbon and barrel.”

Wolf's Ridge Brewing Maple Whiskey Double Barrel Dire Wolf

“Aroma is mostly oak and whiskey with some vanilla, fruity esters, chocolate, roasted malt in the background. Initial taste reveals strong alcohol balanced with sweet, almost syrupy, malt. Maple comes through in the aftertaste. Finishes quite sweet.”

Narrow Gauge Brewing Peanut Butter & Stout

Rich peanut butter and warm chocolate aroma; notes of dark fruit, mashed banana, sweet caramel. Hefty, viscous body. Peanuts, hazelnuts, and chocolate are aggressive in the flavor. Reminiscent of Cap’n Crunch cereal. Subtler notes of strawberry and dark fruit. Softly bitter stripe of dark chocolate keeps the mood semi-serious, but it leans quite sweet in the end, slightly cloying. A bit of reassuringly accurate alcoholic warmth.
