Summit Brewing Co Summit Oatmeal Stout

What the brewers say

"Summit Oatmeal Stout in bottles offers notes of hazelnut, caramel and chocolate. Full and sweet with a robust body, it finishes bright and crisp."

What our panel thought

“Aroma hides behind a massive, creamy head initially but opens to a pleasant hoppy, almost fruity, character. Coffee/roast up front with a tart cherry note on the finish. Soft herbal/minty hops with low notes of pine.”

What our editors thought

“The lightly hoppy nose adds a pungent herbal tinge to the chocolate nose. The sip brings in a bit of tight roast bordering on char, but softened by lighter caramel layers. Just sweet enough, without impacting the need for another pint.”

Summit Brewing Co Summit Oatmeal Stout

“Rich chocolate aroma, clean, with no esters. Body is a touch thin for an oatmeal stout. Perhaps it’s just high carbonation giving a thinner perception. Flavors are smooth, without excessive roast, and the oats convey a unique earthiness. Medium bitterness doesn’t linger.”

Twin Barns Brewing Company McGuigan's Stout

“Very light aromas of roast malt, coffee, piney and earthy hops, and a touch of mint. The roast, dark chocolate, coffee malt flavors are quite delicate. The bitterness is just as soft and the body is light, creating a very clean and simple yet unassuming package.”

Idle Hands Craft Ales Raspberry Torte

“Roast malt, dark chocolate, and coffee notes punctuated by an earthy nondescript berry note in the nose. Expresses as tart, underripe raspberry in the sip, accentuating the dryness and bitterness of both the roasted malt and hops. Light vanilla-like sweetness in the finish.”
